Leapster Explorer offers Exploration and Learning in One Exciting Handheld Device

Focused on learning and fun, the new LeapFrog Leapster Explorer is an exciting handheld game system by LeapFrog that is designed specifically for kids age 4 - 9. Lightweight, and with an amazingly clear touchscreen display, the Leapster Explorer's kid-friendly interface is perfect for young children and small fingers. The Leapster Explorer works similarly to other gaming devices for older kids and adults but plays age-appropriate educational games. Kids will be prompted through gameplay to use certain buttons, but the tethered stylus and touch screen are the main modes of interaction.

The Explorer comes with a free Leaplet download that you'll chose from a collection of games and activities on the LeapFrog site. You can access the free download after connecting the Explorer to your computer with the included USB cable and setting up an account. Other preloaded extras include previews and trailers for current and upcoming Explorer titles and Pet Pad, a digital pet that kids can design, play with, and care for.

Grow Your Leapster Explorer Library and Your Child's Learning Opportunities

Though the Explorer device comes with a free Leaplet download and a few entertaining extras, you'll want to purchase additional cartridges and Leaplets. LeapFrog has created over 30 games and activities and continues to expand its selection.

You'll appreciate the categories for Explorer games, which are focused on specific skills and learning objectives. Similar to the Fisher-Price iXL Learning System and the Vtech Mobigo learning system, games focused on creativity incorporate art, music, and imaginative play, while school basics games integrate activities for math, reading, writing, and spelling. Some select titles will even help your child learn geography, life skills, and science concepts.

Monitor Your Child's Progress

Be active in your child's learning by tracking their progress in specific games and subjects. When you connect the Explorer to your computer the first time, you'll set up a parent account that shows your child's progress in different learning touchstones and how much time she spends playing certain games. The Explorer's tracking feature automatically updates your child's progress whenever you connect the Explorer to your computer. This feature shows your child's strongest and weakest subjects, and you'll get to know your child's true passions and preferences. This information will aid you in helping them cultivate strengths and improve weaknesses. And because the Explorer can hold up to three profiles, it can be used by the whole family.

Leapster Explorer Games

There are more than 30 fun & educational games and activities available for the Leapster Explorer. The most popular Leapster Explorer games right now are the following.

Other LeapFrog Leapster Explorer Accessories

The Leaplet Explorer provides access to Leap World, an online virtual space where kids can create their own character, build spaces, and expand their learning and entertainment opportunities on the LeapFrog Leapster website.

With the camera and video recorder attachment, the Explorer transforms into a creative multi-media tool. Kids can take pictures and video recordings, edit the material with fun effects, then email the results to family and friends. These fun projects can even be used in other Explorer applications.

This toy is not being used as yet as I ordered early to make sure I had it and was not backordered or unavailable! From what I see it looks wonderful. Every time a commercial comes on for the Explorer my 3 year old grandson yells "I want that"
So much better!

The new leapster explorer is great. It is a lot like the old leapster so I understand why some parents would be mad the old games don't work in it. But the new features won't work with the older games. My daughter would play with the old one until she got upset because it was getting too hard or she got tired of playing a game over and over again. This new system keeps her in pre-k mode and it saves her progress so no need to start the game over again each time. And she loves the leaplets and the dog game that comes on it.

I love this toy! My 4 year old can't get enough of it. She loves the princess games the most! Totally worth the price and I don't feel bad letting her play it. It's totally educational!

I cannot say enough how valuable the Leapster Explorer is!! Especially with the new camera accessory that has come out. My son loves the leapster and the options are endless...from the downloads online to the games you can purchase at most retail stores, it is truly a versatile tool for learning. I will say that it is advised to purchase the battery charger as batteries will bankrupt you as much as you will find your child wants to use the toy! I also found it difficult to locate the case (as organization is important as you increase the number of games and accessories). All in all, I would say this has been the best purchase so far in terms of educational toys for our son.

I bought the Leapster Explorer for my 5 yr old boy yesterday after reading the reviews. He's in kindergarden and he's having a little trouble with learning his ABC's. He's all boy and doesn't care anything about learning unless he can have fun while doing it. He LOVES it! I got him the game Mr. Pencil and the leaplet I downloaded was Jewel Train because he loves trains. I am a little disappointed that there are no more games than what is currently available, but I'm sure there's more to come. I'm very excited about the system and I think it's going to help my little fella out a lot!

We've debated a personal gaming system every year for our son. He just turned 5 & I was afraid the games would be over his head. The Leapster is great because you can customize the learning level. He loves it & he really is learning!
